TIME MANAGEMENT SERIES PT 1

Most people find it difficult to get things done until they are put on a deadline.

If you're one of those people that procrastinate a lot and always give yourself an excuse why you shouldn't start something just yet or relax because you feel you have a whole lot of time on your hands especially when you're at work, and at the end of day you end up not being able to finish up your workload and still have to spend extra time just to get things done.
Then this is for you.

I was opportuned to attend a leadership and management training sometime last month and one of the things we were taught was “Time Management” so I would be writing/sharing with us today on the topic.

Whenever you hear “time management”, you will probably think it's all about managing time ie the number of hours available to you to execute a particular task but do you know you cannot manage time, you can only manage yourself, as time is limited.

You cannot hold it or touch it, you can only manage yourself well enough to get things done within the set time frame.

So what is Time management?
It's the act or process of planning and exercising conscious control over the amount of time spent on specific activities, especially to increase effectiveness, efficiency or productivity.

Note the keywords :
- Planning
- Conscious Control (intentionality)
- Specific
- Effectiveness/Productivity.

This means that to get something done, you must first have a plan, be intentional about following through and executing your plan while being  specific about the actual thing you need to do to increase your chances of getting your result.

So you see? This has nothing to do with giving yourself 1 hour to get things done but everything to do with getting yourself to actually do something.

Time management simply requires control and discipline. Nothing more and nothing less.

So next time you're given a task at work, at school or trying to get something done at home. Do not think about the time or number of hours you have to do it but think about how to set yourself up to achieve it.

To be cont'd...
